The Organization of Urban Transportation of Thessaloniki (OASTH) is among the largest urban transportation companies in Greece. Its main station is in front of the train station of Thessaloniki (OSE) on the west side of the city but still close to the center.

Thessaloniki’s urban buses perform 75 different routes in the city and the surrounding area as well as one service aimed at the city tourists. The tourist route with the bus No50, runs through the center of Thessaloniki and the old district of Thessaloniki where the old city walls and castle of Thessaloniki are monuments that date back to the Byzantine era. Also, the tourist line route passes through several important monuments and historic buildings of the city which are located mainly in the center.

Bus tickets can be purchased from various parts of the city. Prices have variations depending on whether you purchase tickets for one trip or more. You may find additional info about the prices below (based on the current price-list):

  • Normal ticket for a journey: 1.00 €
  • Ticket for two routes which last up to 70 minutes: 1.20 €
  • Ticket for 3 routes which last up to 90 minutes: 1.50 €
  • Ticket for 4 routes which last up to 120 minutes: 2.00 €
  • The tourist route No50 and the ride to the airport 78, 78N costs 2.00 € and they are valid only for one trip.

On every bus you will find ticket machines in order to validate your tickets. If you do not have a ticket, you can buy from special machines on the bus. These tickets cost 0.10 € euro more than the prices stated above.
Moreover, for those of you who are planning to stay in Thessaloniki for longer there are commuter passes:

  • One month validity: 30.00 €
  • Three months validity: 84.00 €
  • Six months validity: 150.00 €
  • Annual validity: 270.00 €

The urban bus services of Thessaloniki are the only public transport services that unite the major transport stations in the city. The metro of Thessaloniki is a work in progress which has though not being yet submitted due to several reasons.
