Mackerel | Skoubri: Greek Fish Dishes

The mackerel (named as Skoubri in greek) is a fish that is served as a meze (appetizer) for ouzo. For those however who do not drink ouzo this is not an obstacle (take example myself). This delicacy is quite salty and due to this it creates a sense of thirst. Nevertheless it is an appetizer that will be the first to end on a Greek fish restaurant table. It is a delectable snack that is chosen by people who like really good food.

The preparation is simple. The mackerel is first grilled and then poured with fresh lemon juice and extra virgin olive oil and a little amount of oregano. The flavor is very strong and due to this the quantity served in a dish, comparing with other similar appetizers, is relatively small. It’s a fish for the people who love gourmet flavors. For me personally the mackerel offers an incomparable flavor and I always order it when I visit Greek fish restaurants.
