Greece is famous for the quality and taste of its olives and of course its olive oil. In Greece currently 115,000 tons of olives are produced annually. The varieties which are grown are several. This is influenced by the climatic conditions that exist per region in Greece.

When you visit Greece you will see olives with dark brown or almost black color but also green olives. Sometimes smooth, sometimes shirred or slotted. Their size may also vary. They can be very small but also quite large. Their size is influenced by the cultivation area and their variety.

In addition to this you might also see olives pasta. If you do not see it, remember to search for it. It is a gourmet treat very delicious in different tastes. If you like olives you will sure loves this pasta. Just spread it over a piece of bread or a crunchy bread stick and enjoy the taste.

Lately several restaurants in Thessaloniki have added as appetizer a variety of olives or olives’ pasta on their menus. Some might even offer it for free. This is because in recent years the city of Thessaloniki is becoming an increasingly popular destination for tourists and in the summer Thessaloniki is combined with a visit to the beautiful beaches of Halkidiki located just one or two hours away from Thessaloniki (depending on the actual destination in Halkidiki).
