Ataturk Museum in Thessaloniki

The Museum of Ataturk was officially founded in August 2013 and it is located behind the Turkish Embassy (Str. Pavlous Mela 19). Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, is the founder of the Republic of Turkey, who was born in 1885 in Thessaloniki. The building that hosts the museum is Ataturk’s birth house. Thessaloniki’s City council gave it to the Turkish state in 1935. The building is a historic one (dates back to 1870). Visitors of the museum are able to see a reconstruction of Kemal Ataturk’s house which is composed of 3 floors and a yard. Some of the furniture in the house are authentic and the ones that were missing have been replaced by furniture from Kemal’s mausoleum and from the Top Kapi in Istanbul. There is also photographic material from Kemal’s life and paintings on the walls. Kemal’s Ataturk house is a place that especially Turkish tourist in Thessaloniki never miss to see visit.
