Fried Squid | Kalamarakia

Fried Squid | Kalamarakia

Cut into slices, sprinkled with a mixture of flour and beer (mostly usually), which in Greek is called ‘kourkouti’, the squids are ready to be fried and transformed into a yellow-golden ring shape meze.

The squid (in Greek called kalamaraki) is one of the most famous Greek appetizers in Greece but also abroad. In my life as I have heard dozens of tourists trying to pronounce it in Greek with a special accent. Of course all of them were trying to express their desire to try it. The fried squid, is the favorite appetizer for the children and when ordered it is always accompanied with french fries, greek salad or rocket salad and tzatziki.

The fried Kalamari is one of the cheapest dishes you will find in Greece and there is no way to go to a tavern that is busy and not to see it on the tables beside yours. The ‘kourkouti’ gives half of magic to this dish. Crispy outside and chewy inside will satisfy your culinary desires. There is no tourist who have visited Greece and have not tried it.
